Bayern Munich, you're havin' a laugh!

Published on by @therealfbloke

I have just had a conversation with a fan of Bayern Munich who made it clear that many German fans consider that Manchester City are stealing success by using Sheikh Mansour’s links in the UAE to get around UEFA’s FFPR.

According to my German friend City having most of their income underwritten by company’s based in Abu Dhabi proves that City can never be a big club and all of that income should be disallowed.

Let me make this clear it is the fact that City are sponsored by companies based in Abu Dhabi that is annoying so many Munich fans. In fact the recent deal with Etihad for stadium naming rights was singled out as being ‘very unfair’.

So I did a bit of digging and was interested to read that -

Adidas, the German company owns 9.1% of Bayern Munich

Audi, the German company owns 9.1 % of Bayern Munich

Allianz, the Munich based, German company pays BM vast sums for the stadium naming rights.

Other sponsors who help fill the biggest commercial coffers in world football include -

Deutsche Telekom, the German telecoms multinational.

Siemens, the Munich based, German multinational

Paulaner, the Munich based German beer manufacturer.

Lufthansa, the German airline.

Schaeffler Technologies, the German multinational.

s.Oliver the German fashion manufacturer.

So I feel it is only right and proper that Bayern Munich ask, nay tell UEFA to ignore all of the income from these sponsorships from their FFPR calculations in the same way that fans are asking for City’s Abu Dhabi sponsorship deals to be considered.

Or is there yet again one rule for City and another for an incumbent Champions League club?

All the deals Adidas and Audi have with Bayern are market value. The list of German based company's are not OWNED by Bayern Munich and considering Bayern are the biggest club in the country the
company's would be stupid not to have their brands associated with Bayern. The problems with City sponsorship with Aabar, Etisalat and Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority is that they are owned by the Abu
Dhabi royal family. Eithad as far as i know is also owned by the royal family. And 10 million a year for a campus that's only going to be seen by people in Manchester seems a tad overpriced.

None of that makes any difference in terms of FFPR though.

And is there any real difference between a company like Audi feeling the need because of national pride to invest and an Abu Dhabi company doing the same?

Or is it just an arab thing?
